Valentino Rossi Biography
Valentino Rossi, (born February 16, 1979 in Urbino), is an Italian professional motorcycle racer and multiple MotoGP World Champion. He is one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time, with nine Grand Prix World Championships to his name ? seven of which are in the premier class.
Following his father, Graziano Rossi, Valentino Rossi started racing in Grand Prix in 1996 for Aprilia in the 125cc category and won his first World Championship the following year. From there, he moved up to the 250cc category with Aprilia and won the 250cc World Championship in 1999. He won the 500cc World Championship with Honda in 2001, the MotoGP World Championships (also with Honda) in 2002 and 2003, and continued his streak of back-to-back championships by winning the 2004 and 2005 titles after leaving Honda to join Yamaha, before regaining the title in 2008 and retaining it in 2009. He left Yamaha to join Ducati for the 2011 season.
Valentino Rossi is first in all time 500 cc/MotoGP race wins standings, with 79 victories, and second in all time overall wins standings with 105 race wins (behind Giacomo Agostini with 122).

Valentino Rossi continued to race karts and finished fifth at the national kart championships in Parma. Both Valentino and Graziano had started looking at moving into the Italian 100cc series, as well as the corresponding European series, which most likely would have pushed him into the direction of Formula One. However, the high cost of racing karts led to the decision to race minimoto exclusively. Through 1992 and 1993, Valentino continued to learn the ins and outs of minimoto racing.
In 1993, with help from his father, Virginio Ferrari, Claudio Castiglioni and Claudio Lusuardi (who ran the official Cagiva Sport Production team), he rode a Cagiva Mito 125cc motorcycle, which he damaged in a first-corner crash no more than a hundred metres from the pit lane. He finished ninth that race weekend.
Although his first season in the Italian Sport Production Championship was varied, he achieved a pole position in the season's final race at Misano, where he would ultimately finish on the podium. By the second year, Rossi had been provided with a factory Mito by Lusuardi and won the Italian title.
On 15 August 2010, after the Brno race, Valentino Rossi confirmed he would ride for Ducati Corse, signing a two year deal starting in 2011, joining former Honda team-mate Nicky Hayden in the team. He tested the Desmosedici for the first time in Valencia on 9 November 2010, making his first appearance since 1999, on an Italian motorcycle. Rossi underwent surgery on his shoulder which he injured during the 2010 season, in order to be ready for preseason testing in Malaysia. After original progress during the first test, the Ducati failed to meet the team's expectations at the second Malaysian test and left Rossi unsatisfied, having finished over 1.8 seconds behind Casey Stoner's pace-setting Honda.

The final day of testing for the MotoGP and Moto2 classes for 2012 wrapped up at Jerez under clear skies and slightly cooler conditions, but still perfect for testing Grand Prix motorcycles. The field had thinned out considerably for the final day, with the Colin Edwards' NGM Forward team having gone home, and Carlos Checa having flown out to Moscow to present the Russian round of World Superbikes the evening before, while the Forward and Pons Moto2 teams had also decided to pack up after the second day.
The lack of other riders made no difference to the top of the Moto2 timesheets, Scott Redding once again fastest aboard the Marc VDS Racing Kalex for the third day in a row. Bradley Smith's improvement on the 2012 Tech 3 bike also continued, the Englishman cutting another half a second off his time from yesterday, and ending just a tenth behind Redding. Gino Rea matched the pace of Smith, the young Londoner continuing to test for the Gresini team. Redding's teammate Mika Kallio was 4th fastest on the day, half a second quicker than Tech 3's Xavier Simeon.

Simoncelli Killed After 45 Minutes Accidents
KUALA LUMPUR - MICOM: Gresni Honda rider Marco Simoncelli was killed at the age of 24. Severe injuries in the head makes him unable to survive.
Medical Director Dr. Michele Macchiagodena call, Simoncelli died from injuries in the head, neck, and chest.
"I am sad to be here to announce the death of Marco Simoncelli. The cause of death there is trauma to the face, head, neck and chest," said Macchiagodena a news conference at the Sepang Circuit on Sunday (23/10).
He explained the conditions Simoncelli was unconscious when medical teams arrived to the crash site. When the ambulance arrived, he was immediately given CPR (artificial breathing assistance) and also get emergency care. Unfortunately the CPR for 45 minutes could not help her. "Simoncelli died at 16:56," softly Macchiagodena.
The press conference which lasted six minutes and was attended by Javier Alonso (Dorna Events Managing Director), Franco Uncini (Safety Delegates), Claude Danis (Presidential Commission on Safety), and Paul Butler (Race Director).

Michele Pirro Confirmed At Gresini To Ride FTR Honda CRT Machine In MotoGP
The 2012 MotoGP grid took another step closer to completion today, with the announcement that Michele Pirro will be riding the San Carlo Gresini Honda team's CRT entry in MotoGP next season. Pirro is to ride a CBR1000RR-powered MotoGP machine, the Honda engine housed in a chassis designed and built by FTR.
The move had been long anticipated, with Pirro claiming the favorite role for the seat after his win in the final Moto2 race of the 2011 season at Valencia in November, aboard the Gresini Moriwaki. His Moto2 teammate Yuki Takahashi had originally been linked to the Gresini CRT ride, but the tragic death of Marco Simoncelli at Sepang left Gresini without an Italian rider for 2012, a key point for Gresini's Italian sponsor, snack manufacturer San Carlo. Pirro, who had shown clear progress throughout his debut Moto2 season, took priority over Takahashi once Alvaro Bautista was signed to race Gresini's Honda RC213V factory prototype for 2012, that deal being completed at Valencia.

2012 World Superbike Test Dates Announced - Testing Added To Australian, Spanish, Italian And Russian WSBK Rounds
Infront Motor Sports, organizers of the World Superbike series, have announced the official test dates for the 2012 WSBK season. As part of the cost-cutting initiatives which are now a ubiquitous part of motorcycle racing, testing for the WSBK series has been linked to races, rather than at separate tests, with the aim of reducing travel and transport expenses.
The first test is the traditional pre-season test at Phillip Island, taking place on the Monday and Tuesday before the 2012 season season opener at the Australian circuit. The following test is at Imola, on the Monday after the race at the legendary Italian track at the beginning of April. The Spanish WSBK round at the Motorland Aragon circuit in July also features a test on the Monday after the race, while the teams will get a one-day test - in effect, an extra day of practice - ahead of the inaugural Russian round of World Superbikes at the Moscow Raceway being built just outside the Russian capital.

2011 Portimao WSBK Test Day 3 Results: Laverty Leads Aprilia One-Two
Eugene Laverty leaves the World Superbike test in excellent shape, ending the final day of testing as fastest and shaving a few hundredths off his Aprilia teammate Max Biaggi's official lap record of 1'42.774. Biaggi was close to his own lap record, and just a tenth slower than Laverty, while the Aprilia pairing led a gaggle of BMWs, all with the same time, Leon Haslam, Marco Melandri and satellite BMW Italia rider Ayrton Badovini posting laps of 1'43.1.
Chaz Davies had also impressed throughout the test. On his second outing on the ParkinGO Aprilia, and just his second test on a World Superbike machine, Davies ended the three-day test with a best time of 1'43.2, half a second off Laverty's time. Davies was six tenths quicker than Leon Camier on the Englishman's first outing on the Crescent Suzuki GSX-R 1000, Camier warming to the task and dropping a second off his best time from Monday to Wednesday. Michel Fabrizio ended the test as last of the regular WSBK riders, 1.2 seconds off Laverty's time, while Alastair Seeley posted a very respectable 1'44.1 after his first visit to the track, Seeley having been drafted in to replace John Hopkins, who is still recovering from finger surgery.

The day clearly belonged to one driver and one driver only - Casey Stoner. The main Aussie of the Moto GP show silenced all his critics. Unusually for the 21 year old team Ducati rider he had a bad start. Slipping down the order to seventh position. This never seemed to phase the guy aptly described as "a genius" by his project manager Livio Suppo. Instead of tip-toeing around the drenched circuit and waiting for things to unfold ahead of him, Stoner went ahead and in the next 3 laps worked his way up to third place. By halfway through the race he'd passed the race leader Colin Edwards (who had led the race from pole position up to that point) and from there on in he never looked in the slightest discomfort with riding in the changing conditions, changing conditions because the track had started drying out to the point that a clear dry racing line had formed on the track.Chris Vermeulen (are the Aussies taking over?) had to repay his team because he had crashed his bike 3 times over the weekend, so finishing 3rd was good enough for him. Having started way back in 12th position he had an excellent start and managed to pass Valentino Rossi in the closing stages of the race. Rossi brought his bike in to 4th place to at least keep the fight for the championship between himself and Stoner more than alive. Rossi had a difficult race firstly not having the pace of Casey Stoner and also tearing his tyres up in the latter half of the race due to the track drying out.
John Hopkins caught Rossi at the end but couldn't put in a decent passing move on the 7 times Donington winner so had to settle for 5th.
The rest of the top 10 finishers were Randy de Puniet on his Kawasaki in 6th, still recovering from his knee surgery. Alex Barros passed Dani Pedrosa for 7th place on the last lap of the race. Pedrosa started well on his Honda but slipped down the order and seemed a bit easy for the other riders to get past. Valentino Rossi Biography
Valentino Rossi, (born February 16, 1979 in Urbino), is an Italian professional motorcycle racer and multiple MotoGP World Champion. He is one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time, with nine Grand Prix World Championships to his name ? seven of which are in the premier class.
Following his father, Graziano Rossi, Valentino Rossi started racing in Grand Prix in 1996 for Aprilia in the 125cc category and won his first World Championship the following year. From there, he moved up to the 250cc category with Aprilia and won the 250cc World Championship in 1999. He won the 500cc World Championship with Honda in 2001, the MotoGP World Championships (also with Honda) in 2002 and 2003, and continued his streak of back-to-back championships by winning the 2004 and 2005 titles after leaving Honda to join Yamaha, before regaining the title in 2008 and retaining it in 2009. He left Yamaha to join Ducati for the 2011 season.
Valentino Rossi is first in all time 500 cc/MotoGP race wins standings, with 79 victories, and second in all time overall wins standings with 105 race wins (behind Giacomo Agostini with 122).
Valentino Rossi was born in Urbino, and he was still a child when the family moved to Tavullia. Son of Graziano Rossi, a former motorcycle racer, he first began riding at a very young age. Rossi's first racing love was karting. Fuelled by his mother, Stefania's, concern for her son's safety, Graziano purchased a kart as substitute for the bike. However, the Rossi family trait of perpetually wanting to go faster prompted a redesign; Graziano replaced the 60cc motor with a 100cc national kart motor for his then 5-year-old son.
Rossi won the regional kart championship in 1990. After this he took up minimoto and before the end of 1991 had won numerous regional races.
Valentino Rossi continued to race karts and finished fifth at the national kart championships in Parma. Both Valentino and Graziano had started looking at moving into the Italian 100cc series, as well as the corresponding European series, which most likely would have pushed him into the direction of Formula One. However, the high cost of racing karts led to the decision to race minimoto exclusively. Through 1992 and 1993, Valentino continued to learn the ins and outs of minimoto racing.
In 1993, with help from his father, Virginio Ferrari, Claudio Castiglioni and Claudio Lusuardi (who ran the official Cagiva Sport Production team), he rode a Cagiva Mito 125cc motorcycle, which he damaged in a first-corner crash no more than a hundred metres from the pit lane. He finished ninth that race weekend.
Although his first season in the Italian Sport Production Championship was varied, he achieved a pole position in the season's final race at Misano, where he would ultimately finish on the podium. By the second year, Rossi had been provided with a factory Mito by Lusuardi and won the Italian title.
On 15 August 2010, after the Brno race, Valentino Rossi confirmed he would ride for Ducati Corse, signing a two year deal starting in 2011, joining former Honda team-mate Nicky Hayden in the team. He tested the Desmosedici for the first time in Valencia on 9 November 2010, making his first appearance since 1999, on an Italian motorcycle. Rossi underwent surgery on his shoulder which he injured during the 2010 season, in order to be ready for preseason testing in Malaysia. After original progress during the first test, the Ducati failed to meet the team's expectations at the second Malaysian test and left Rossi unsatisfied, having finished over 1.8 seconds behind Casey Stoner's pace-setting Honda.

The Choice Facing Valencia: A New Surface Or A New Track Layout
Valencia has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar since the track was completed in 1999, but when the MotoGP riders return to the Circuit Ricardo Tormo for the final round of the 2012 MotoGP season, they could be coming to a radically different circuit. According to Valencia newspaper El Mercantil Valenciano, the management of the circuit intends to put forward a proposal to completely change a large part of the track layout at the next meeting of the Administration Council, the public body that oversees the track, in December 14th of this year. If that proposal is rejected, they will demand that the track is resurfaced as an urgent priority.

MotoGP Build Up to Sachsenring
There will be no doubt that Jorge Lorenzo will want to get off to the best possible start at the Sachsenring following his race win at Mugello a fortnight ago after taking over Dovizioso and Stoner. He will be looking to cut the MotoGP 2011 cahmpionship lead that Stoner has at the minute. The battle this weekend will be between these two. i think that Simoncelli will carry on with his form and crash after doing well last time out. Or has he finally got rid of his demons? Will he finish the race and maybe get the podium that he deserves.The Yamahas have become strong in the past two races with Spies winning at Assen and Lorenzo at Mugello. They have brought a few little bit of extra tech to help them out in the battle with Repsol Honda. The Ducati's have not been on the pace even though Rossi has been running the GP11.1 bike (next years chassis with an 800cc engine in). Hayden has not been able to do this as he had already used too many of his engines for the season. The riders get a limit fo six engines for the season, averaging three races each. Rossi is on to his fifth engine of the season.
Another team that is doing well in the face of adversity is the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 team. Both of its riders had suffered collarbone breakages but getting back on the bikes the following race. Crutchlow will be wanting to get the issues of tyre pressures sorted for the race on Sunday. Edwards will be looking to bag himself some more points with his collarbone hopefully fully healed now.
The Repsol Honda riders of Stoner and Dovizioso will be looking to be near to the front of the pack come Sunday as they are most weekends. Pedrosa will be looking to get higher up the order than he did in Mugello now that he is back from his double collarbone break.
